A Prideful Heart
Pride is like poison to the soul. When the spirit of pride is at work in our lives, it has a strange way of keeping us blind to our sin and can inevitably act as a catalyst to behaviors and lifestyles that are opposing to God and His word.
Getting Rid Of Pride
The first step to ridding yourself of pridefulness is through self-awareness.
We must go to God and ask him to search our hearts and to reveal these types of things to us. We are to ask God to open our eyes to the things in our lives that cause Him grief.
I can assure you that when you go to the Lord with a sincere heart and ask, He will reveal.
God is a loving and merciful God who desires for each of us to live in accordance to His will — abiding in truth and living in humility. Therefore, when we ask God to search our hearts and to reveal things to us, you must know that He absolutely will.
Psalm 139:23-24
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.”
Pride Can Blind You To The Truth
Unfortunately when pride is deeply rooted in our lives, it typically isn’t something that we come to a natural senses/awareness of on our own. Again, we are typically blind to how greatly pride is operating in our lives. Others around us may see it, but more often than not, we can be unaware of how greatly it rules over our lives.
Repentance and Prayer For Humility
Pride can keep us from the very life that God has for us. This is why we must truly understand the importance of humility, walking in it daily, and asking forgiveness for the times that we have allowed pride to rule in and over us.
Here is a prayer that the Holy Spirit gifted to me as I prepared to write today’s post. I would like to share it with each of you today. This prayer is specific for repentance and freedom from a prideful heart:
“Dear God, please forgive me for operating from a place of pride. Forgive me for my prideful behaviors and mindsets. I come to you Lord to thank you for revealing me to me. Thank you for never leaving me and for loving me in spite of my shortcomings. Lord, I ask that you would remove this prideful spirit within me and make me a person of humility. Create in me a new heart Lord and help me to live a life that is pleasing to you. It is in Jesus’ name that I pray, Amen.
I love you all.
Until next time,
Amari E.
